Tim Moberly: Bio

Musician, Artist

Fueled by a lifetime of performance with ensembles and as a solo musician, Timothy Moberly's diverse talents mark him as a distinctively genuine creative and performing artist. His vast musical experience ranges from road musician to independent multimedia artist to university professor. Musical styles as diverse as jazz, classical, rock, early music, Irish and British traditional song, pop, and folk lend a broad palette of colors to his musical insight, and have been stops along the way as he steers toward new creative horizons.

Timothy Moberly studied composition with William C. Heinrichs and theory with Joseph Rivers at the University of Tulsa. After earning his B. M. magna cum laude and M. M. in composition, he received a Graduate School Fellowship from the University of Miami. There he studied composition with Dennis Kam and Don Wilson, and theory with John Van der Slice. Along with large multimovement works composed in Miami, he extensively researched and authored “A Survey of English Folk Song Related to Calendar Custom and Seasonal Celebration”, which was selected to be archived at the National Centre for English Cultural Tradition at the University of Sheffield, UK. After earning the doctorate in composition and later conducting further research in Europe, he returned to the United States.

Timothy Moberly's electronic music is reflected in his first CD, "Faux Normal", released by Vertebrate Records in 2005. His multimedia work, "The Faux Normal Show", combined selected music from this collection with large-scale projection of images and animation of his own design. Also included are new pieces with music and visuals specifically created for this medium, such as the moving "Venir Souvenir".

As a singer-songwriter, he performs his long list of songs and instrumental works in this genre as vocalist and guitarist. He is currently recording his second CD, which features a selection of these titles.

Dr. Moberly has served as Adjunct Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the University of Tulsa School of Music, and has taught theory, history, and composition at Barthelmes Conservatory, Tulsa. He has also served as instructor for Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa programs including Harwelden Institute, Artists in the Schools, and Tulsa SummerArts. He is a private instructor of guitar, electric bass, and other musical disciplines for Vertebrate Studios.
